New Rimmel Lip Products

I've actually had the pictures for this blog post for around a month now, so technically these aren't really new products anymore, but I thought I'd share them with you nonetheless. I really liked the original Apocalips range, so when I heard a matte version was being released, I was excited to try them and see how they compared to the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets. I wasn't quite so excited about the Provocalips because of the glossier finish they claim to have, but I was still curious.

Top to bottom: Matte Apocalips in Atomic Rose, Matte Apocalips in Burning Lava, Provocalips in Kiss Me You Fool
I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the Matte Apolcalips. One of the little niggles I had with the original Apolcalips range was that, no matter how hard I tried, I'd always end up with lipstick all over my teeth. The matte range does the same, but unfortunately has a few other cons to go along with it. I found that they clung to dry patches pretty badly and, Burning Lava especially, never dried to a completely matte finish. The wear time is good, being around the same as the original Apocalips, maybe a little more, and the colour range is lovely, but the formula has really let them down this time.

Provocalips on the other hand has really surprised me. I wasn't expecting to like these very muc, due to the high gloss finish, but I found these to be a really good lip product. There's two ends to the product. The first is the high intensity colour, which I actually found to be quite sticky and unpleasant when I applied it. But then you go in with the lock & shine end and the stickiness disappears - weird, as I would expect the end with the gloss to be stickier! Once you've applied both parts of the product, it is super comfortable to wear and the colour well and truly stays in place for a long time. It lasted through food, drink, and even overnight (not that I recommend sleeping in your makeup - this was purely for testing reasons!). I found that the glossiness didn't last too well, maybe three hours, but this didn't bother me, though gloss fans may be a little disappointed, If you're looking for a high intensity, long lasting colour though, this is the product to go for. Be warned, it may take a bit of scrubbing when it comes to removing!

So it's been a bit of a mixed bag from Rimmel recently. The Matte Apocalips really didn't work for me at all, which is a shame as I've been loving a lot of matte products recently. The Provocalips have really won me over though and I'm hoping to add to my collection very soon with the shade Kiss Fatal, a gorgeous autumnal berry colour.

Have you tried either of these products? What did you think to them?

  1. I found I had to exfoliate my lips before using them to get an even finish or it would cling to mine too. They're lovely colours you chose though x

  2. Hey there, stopping by from the chat, thank you for sharing the link.
And oh wow! I love the Apocalips original version but this sounds such a dud. I didn't really know 'bout these. Such a shame.

  3. I tried the matte Apocalips when they were first released and I really liked them. I always make sure I use a lip exfoliator (like the Lush Lip Scrubs) and slick on some lip balm before I do my makeup, to get rid of any dry patches first. It's a shame you didn't like them!
