Orange Biscuit Recipe

I know most of you are probably sick of the sight of food by this time on Easter Sunday, but I wanted to share with you my wedding favours recipe. I've been really busy with lots of wedding prep this Easter weekend, including a test run of baking the favours. We had a couple of recipes in the running, so we prepared a batch of each to try. The recipe that triumphed on the day was the orange flavour.

My mum found us a similar recipe on this website for orange twist biscuits, but we adapted it to fit in with the style of favours that we actually wanted, using pretty much the same ingredients (we didn't add the glaze). The plan on the day is to have them as butterfly shaped biscuits to fit in with our theme but, me being a scatterbrain, I forgot to take the cutters so we had to make do with round ones for the trial!

The recipe we adapted for our favours made around 55 small biscuits, and was as follows:

Ingredients

  • 125g unsalted butter, softened
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 1 medium egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 orange, zested
  • 250g plain flour

  • Method

    1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4. If your oven is fan assisted, like ours was, drop the temperature down to 170 C.

    2. In a bowl, cream together the butter and the sugar until light and fluffy.

    3. Add the egg and orange zest, and stir to combine.

    4. Add the flour in gradually and mix to form a firm dough.

    5. Roll out the dough mixture to a 5mm thickness. Cut out the biscuits into your desired shape and place onto a paper-lined baking tray. Repeat until all of the dough has been used.

    6. Leave the biscuits to chill in the fridge for 30 mins.

    7. Bake the biscuits for 10-15 minutes or until the edges are just starting to brown.

To make our favours a little more personal to our guests we are planning on giving our guests two small biscuits each, one with their first initial and one with the surname initial, so we had a little test with the icing too. Don't worry, we won't be using bogie-green icing on the day!

I hope you enjoyed reading something a little different from me today. Let me know if you decide to try my recipe, or the orange twist recipe, and how they turn out.
