Those of you that follow me on Instagram will probably already know that Saturday was a pretty exciting day for me - I got my first Chanel lipstick! I've browsed and swatched many a shade at the Chanel counter for a very long time but, with money being a little tight for the next few months, I thought I was going to have to wait quite a while longer to get my hands on one. Whilst browsing with my friend in House of Fraser this weekend, she suddenly remembered that she owed me some money (perfect timing Natalie, well done!). As I had completely forgotten about it, I was going to let it slide but she was insistent on paying me back. It was there, at the Chanel counter, I had a lightbulb moment - buy me a Chanel lipstick and call it quits! My friend saved herself some money and I got something I'd been longing for for months - win, win!
Next came the task of choosing which shade to get. This wasn't a decision to be taken lightly, after all I won't be getting the chance to choose another one any time soon! Several swatches later, I decided on Melodieuse (136) from the Rouge Allure range. It's a bright, slightly corally, pink which I thought would be perfect to the upcoming summer months.
The packaging of Chanel lipsticks is stunning, the Rouge Allure in particular. If you haven't seen them before, they come in a black outer casing with the gold lipstick casing tucked away inside. To get the lipstick out, you have to push the bottom of the gold casing in and the bottom of the lipstick then clicks out. I've had so much fun already, constantly clicking away at the packaging - sad, eh?
The texture of this lipstick is so luxuriously soft, it glides on so smoothly. It's very hydrating and feels almost like a lip balm rather than a lipstick, perfect for my dry lips. As you can see from my lip swatch, one layer of the lipstick doesn't give off a great deal of colour, so you will need to layer it if you wanted something a little more vibrant. For a lipstick of this texture, it's pretty long lasting, with three to four hours wear depending on what you are doing.
I'm so pleased with my first Chanel lipstick "purchase" and can't wait to buy my next - I'm thinking of treating myself to another with my birthday money in a few months time.
Have you tried the Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks? What's your favourite high end lipstick?
