Maybelline Colour Elixir Lip Lacquers

There was so much hype surrounding these products when they were finally launched in the UK. We spent forever lusting after them whilst our friends in the States had them, and after what seemed like forever, they were finally available towards the end of last year, and we all went crazy over them. After experiencing the same hype over the Maybelline Baby Lips and being extremely disappointed, I decided to sit back and watch the reaction before deciding whether I really wanted to give these a go myself.

After much deliberation, I picked up the shades Signature Scarlet and Caramel Infused whilst a BOGOF offer was on just before Christmas, and I'm quite pleasantly surprised by them. When I first opened the packaging, the wand looking a little bit strange - it's quite furry looking, so it makes the product look a bit of a mess, but thenkfully it's nothing like that when you apply it. The shape of the wand allows for really precise application.

I was really worried when I first bought them that they were basically going to be a tinted lipgloss, sticky and uncomfortable, but they are not sticky at all. The formula is quite thick, so they feel more like you're wearing a lip balm rather than a gloss, but you still get the high shine that you'd expect of a gloss. You do have to be careful when you've first applied them though, as you can end up with product on your teeth.

In terms of wear, they do last a little longer than a regular lipgloss but not a great deal longer. I have found that Simply Scarlet does leave a bit of a stain behind though, so not all colour completely disappears, but it will need a top up every 3 hours or so, especially if you're eating and drinking in that time.

These elixirs are not what I expected them to be, but in a good way. I've not tried them yet so cannot compare, but they are what I'd imagine the Nyx Butter Glosses to be like. They are very comfortable to wear and have really good pigmentation, so if you're not too bothered about the average staying power, I'd recommend giving these a go. I'm really loving Caramel Infused for an everyday lip colour.

Have you tried the Maybelline Lip Lacquers? What did you think to them?

  1. These look so lush. I have been wanting to try the nyx butter glosses for ages now but I can't find them anywhere in the uk. Seen as you compare these to those I may have to try them out.
