Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks

I wasn't really that fussed about these lipsticks when they were first released. They were receiving a lot of hype in the blogging world but I was resisting really well, which was a little odd for me since I'm lip product obsessed. I guess I was still swooning over the Revlon Matte Balms and felt like I didn't need another matte lip product in my life just yet. But when one of my friends told me that I had to try the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks, I sat up and took notice. When someone who's nowhere near as beauty obsessed as I am is raving a product so much, you know it's damn well worth trying.

Swatches l-r: Personne ne Rouge, Peach Club, Pink Pong
What struck me upon application was just how pigmented these lipsticks are. The colour payoff is second to none and the shade range is so vibrant, though I'll admit being a nude lover I was a little disappointed there wasn't something to cater for that taste too, though Peach Club could be suitable for everyday wear. The lipsticks apply like a lipgloss, with the applicator allowing for very precise application, which is needed with such bright colours, but dry after a while into a velvet matte finish.

The finish does not dry out the lips but, be warned, you will need to give your lips a good scrub before applying as the lipstick will sit in any dry patches if your lips aren't super smooth beforehand. Once the product has dried this will not budge, so you're not going to get any nasty smudges or lipstick marks on glasses.

Top to bottom: Personne ne Rouge, Peach Club, Pink Pong
The wear of these lipsticks is also incredible, they really do hang around. I wore Pink Pong to my hen party and after seven hours the colour was still there with just a bit of fading - and that was with a three course meal and plenty of drinks consumed! This does mean though that they do stain the lips a little and are a bit of a pain to remove, but I've found a few wipes of a good makeup remover will do the trick.

I'm so glad my friend talked me into buying these lipsticks. They make the perfect lipstick for a night out, with their great range of vibrant colours and the fact that you don't have to worry about re-applying them every couple of hours. Some people have commented in their reviews that they really don't like the smell of them but I personally can't notice a particularly bad smell. At £8.99 each, they are verging on the slightly pricey side for a drugstore lip product but they are totally worth it. I don't think I'd go mad and buy the whole range, since they are mostly very bold & bright and something I would reserve for a night time look only, but I'm really happy with the selection I picked up. Of course, it always helps when Boots have a 3 for 2 offer on!

Have you tried the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks? What's your current favourite lip product?
