My Current Evening Skincare Routine

I've been meaning to do an evening skincare routine post for such a long time, since it was several months ago that my morning skincare post was published, but I've not been happy with all of the products I've been using until recently. This might look like a heck of a lot of products for just one face, but believe me I don't use every single one of these products every night. These are the products that are currently in my evening skincare rotation, and I'll use each of them at least once a week.

First off, as soon as I'm home for the evening, I'll take off my makeup using the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water. I like my skin to be able to breathe, so I don't like to keep my makeup on any longer than I need to, so I make this step one of my priorities as soon as I walk in the door. This was the step in my routine I was least happy with until I found Garnier's micellar water - you can see my full review of it here. Then, just before bedtime, the rest of my routine starts.
For my second cleanse, I'm currently using Lush Ultrabland Cleanser. This cleansing balm has made me fall in love with Lush products all over again. I really love the simpleness of it, it's great for my sensitive skin. It does a great job of removing any last traces of makeup and prepping my skin for the next step which is, of course, toning.
I have two different toners which I switch up in my routine. The first is the Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner, which leaves my skin feeling fresh and clean after use. It's a little tingley, but does not sting at all, which I have found with some exfoliating toners I've used in the past. It would be a little harsh to use everyday, as it is an exfoliator, so I only tend to use this two or three times a week. For days when I'm not using my Clarins toner, I opt for something a little more gentle in the Body Shop Aloe Calming Toner. This is so gentle for sensitive skins and leaves my skin feeling refreshed.

The next step for my everyday routine is to use my Body Shop Vitamin E Serum In Oil. This is probably my favourite skincare discovery of 2014 so far. I adore this serum, I can really feel a difference to my skin if I don't use this for a few days. It's a great product for a relatively budget price and leaves my skin looking and feeling so much healthier, like it has a glow to it. You can see my full review of this serum here.
Next up I take care of my eyes and lips. For my eyes, I am currently using up a sample pot of Clinique All About Eyes, but I've enjoying using it so much that I'll definitely be repurchasing a full size when this runs out, which is going to be very soon! It's much thicker than my day eye cream but not so heavy that my under eyes feel weighed down with product, and feel lovely and smooth in the morning. I top my lips up with Body Shop lip butters whenever they feel dry throughout the day but, for some extra moisture in the evening, I slap on a bit of Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. This product seems to be a bit like marmite in the beauty world but I can tell you I love it. I'll also use it on my skin if I ever get any really dry patches, which I sometimes do on my nose or near my scalp, as it helps to get rid of them within a matter of days.
My final everyday step in the evening is to moisturise, for which I am using the No7 Beautiful Skin Night Cream. This pot of cream has lasted me such a long time, I can't see this running out any time soon! I have the cream for dry/very dry skin so it's quite rich and a little goes a very long way. It's sinks into the skin nicely and leaves my skin feeling nice and hydrated in the morning.
I tend to use a purifying face mask once a week, usually on a Sunday pamper night, but the product I use varies so much. I do really like Superdrug's own brand masks, as they are great value for money. During the week, if my face needs a little extra moisture, I'll pop on the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask in place of my moisturiser. This product has become I bit of a lifesaver for my dry skin. My skin feels gorgeous after using this mask and the apricot scent is divine. I posted a full review of this mask last year if you'd like to find out more.
I very rarely get a breakout of spots, which is quite lucky, so I don't have any products for the entire face which are designed to target breakouts, as these would also dry out and irritate my skin. However, if I do get the odd spot creep up on my face, I reach for my Body Shop Tea Tree Oil. I just soak some onto a cotton bud and dab it onto any spots I have, to avoid drying out my entire face. This has been the most effective thing I have found for clearing up my spots - even the biggest and reddest of them are gone in just a few days if I use this morning & night.

Have you used any of these products? What do you use in your evening skincare routine?

  1. I fell out of love with my Body Shop Serum in Oil but have recently discovered it again, it just leaves the skin so plump in the morning. It's great stuff.

I like the idea of cleansing water but never tried any, is the Garnier one any good? x
