Barry M Silk Nail Polishes Review

I was so excited when I first saw these nail polishes pop up on a few blogs. The finish in the pictures looked stunning and the colours were perfect for Spring. The only problem I had whilst looking at the Barry M stand in my local Boots was deciding which colours to pick up so, of course, I picked up all of them (taking advantage of the 3 for 2 offer meant it wasn't quite so bad for my bank balance). Now I've given them a good testing for myself, I thought I'd share with you my thoughts.

I have to admit these were a bit of a faff to apply. They are very thin, and quite runny, in consistency so you have to be very careful when applying them. I found that you had to wipe a lot of excess away from the brush before applying to your nails, otherwise you would get a lot of polish running down from the top of the brush & dripping onto the nail, creating an uneven coverage if you weren't careful. As it's also a thin consistency, I found that most shades required 3 coats before becoming opaque, not the usual 2 coats I've come to expect from a Barry M polish. They're also not the fastest drying, so be prepared for a bit of sitting around waiting with these ones. This could possible be down to the extra coats needed.

l-r: Blossom, Pearl, Heather

l-r: Mist, Truffle, Meadow
However, once they are dry, they do create the loveliest effect. The polishes dry to a matte finish with a hint of shimmer to them, which is so beautiful and unique. My favourite shade is Heather, which came as a bit of a surprise to me, as I normally like blue shades the most. Heather is a gorgeous lilac colour which looks lovely and elegant once dried on the nails and will be perfect for the spring. Another of my favourites from the range was Meadow, which is similar to a duck egg colour - which is the colour of my bedroom, so of course I was going to love it! There's no particular colour I disliked, but I'd say Mist was the hardest to get opaque, so I'd probably save this one for days when I have more time on my hands.

I wouldn't recommend these polishes to a "two coats and out the door" kinda girl, as you may lose patience when applying these. Of course, you could apply a fast drying top coat over them to save time, but I think it takes away from the finish a little. However, if you see painting your nails as a bit of a pamper session and like to take your time over them, I would recommend you pick these up. The finish is stunning and the shade selection simply beautiful. I've been wearing Heather for three days as I type this and so far I have no chips, which is pretty good going.

You can pick these polishes up in Boots, Superdrug and some larger Tesco stores for £3.99 each, which is an absolute steal. They are also still currently available in the Boots 3 for 2 offer if you're quick!

Have you tried the Barry M Silk Collection? What did you think to them?
