I haven't owned a MAC lipstick for very long, I'm sure it was still less than a year ago that I made my first purchase, but I've become hooked and have made several trips back to the MAC counter since. I was having a sort out of my makeup collection last weekend and realised that over the past year I've managed to accumulate 8 lipsticks in total, and thought this was a decent amount to warrant a collection post.
The sleek & simple packaging of the MAC lipsticks is really appealing to me, as is the lovely vanilla scent - yummy! At first I thought £15 (or £14 as they were at the time) was a little pricey for a lipstick, but since venturing more into the world of high end makeup, these aren't anywhere near as expensive as some others. Don't get me wrong, I still consider it a treat when I purchase one though. They come in several different formulas - Amplified, Cremesheen, Frost, Glaze, Lustre, Matte & Satin, so there's a wide variety of finished available. My favourite is probably the Cremesheen formula, as it's so moisturising on my lips. It's not the most long wearing of formulas though, so you do need to top it up a few times during the day. I'm yet to try a MAC matte lipstick, which would give a much longer lasting finish, as I'm worried they may dry out my lips too much.
l-r: Hue, Crème Cup, Chatterbox, Coral Bliss |
Crème Cup (Cremesheen) This is probably the easiest lipstick to wear on an everyday basis. It's a gorgeous pale, almost nude pink. It's from my favourite formula range too, so it's super moisturising and glides onto the lips nicely, giving an even layer of colour on the lips. This is probably my most used of my MAC lipsticks as it's so easy to wear with almost any look at any time of year.
Chatterbox (Amplified) My first ever MAC purchase. This one is another of my most used lipsticks, as again it's a good everyday colour. Chatterbox is a lovely slightly bright, without being over the top, pink shade. The pigmentation of the amplified range is excellent, so one sweep of this on the lips is all you need to get a vibrant colour. The formula is still very creamy so it still feels lovely and smooth on your lips.
Coral Bliss (Cremesheen) I have been wearing this one a lot recently, after digging it out for my spring/summer makeup switch up. It's the perfect shade for this time of year, but again very wearable during a day at work as it's a much more pale coral shade. Look out for this one in my March favourites post!
l-r: Vegas Volt, Lustering, Up The Amp, Plumful |
Lustering (Lustre) I really like Lustering, but I don't think this one gets as much love from me as it should. It's a lovely bright raspberry pink shade that I think looks lovely on a night out. The lustre shades have more of a glossy finish to them than the other lipsticks and the colour takes a little longer to build up, but I still get pretty decent wear from them.
Up The Amp (Amplified) I have quite a lot of amplified lipsticks don't I?! This one was a bit of a gamble for me, as I don't own anything else like this - I'm not one to gravitate towards purple lipsticks. It's not as scary as it looks in the tube in store, but it's still not one I would wear as an everyday lipstick, as it's quite a vibrant colour. I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone a little with this one, as I really like this colour. It's a little on the pinky-purple side, and definitely as purple as I would go though!
Plumful (Lustre) Saving the best til last (in my opinion anyway!). I absolutely love this lipstick and could not stop wearing it in the autumn & winter. As suggested by the name, it's a plum shade, which can be built up to be as subtle or bold as you like, because of the lustre formula, which means I was able to get a lot of use out of it day or night. I'm probably not going to get much use out of it over the next few months, as it's much more suited to the colder months, but I will be keeping this tucked away safely and it will be taking pride of place in my makeup bag again at the end of the year.
So that is my collection so far. I have my eye on a few shades already to add to these. I'm definitely missing a red lipstick in there, and Ladybug is the one that has caught my eye. I'd love to get Ruby Woo, as it looks like such a stunning colour, but as I mentioned before, I am worried that the matte lipsticks would be too drying on my lips. If you've seen my spring beauty wishlist, you'll know that I've also got my eye on Peach Blossom, as I think this will be another perfect lipstick for this time of year.
Do you have any of the lipsticks in my collection? What other shades would you recommend for me? What's your favourite MAC lipstick?
