Essence Pure Skin Anti-Spot Moisturizing Makeup

You may remember when I wrote my essence launch post that I was going to be doing a full review of the Anti Spot Moisturizing Makeup* once I'd given it a thorough testing. This product couldn't have arrived at my door at a better time, as I'd just suffered a pretty bad hormonal breakout all over my chin, so I was interested to see if this would do a good job of clearing it up for me.

The first thing I noticed when I unscrewed the lid of the tub was the smell of the product. It's a little strong but, if you can get past that, it's actually a very nice product to use. I found it was best applied with my fingers rather than a brush, and blended out quite nicely this way. One thing I did find is that the shade I received (01 - beige) was the lightest they do and, although it was ok whilst I still have a tan to my face, I feel this is going to be a bad match for me come the winter, so pale skinned girls may struggle with this one.

It has the consistency which is quite similar to that of a tinted moisturiser and provides quite a light coverage - it's certainly not going to cover up all of your blemishes, so you will need to go in with a concealer too. It claims to give a matte effect to the skin which, although I wouldn't say it was very dewy, I don't think it was completely matte either. One thing I will say is that it is very moisturising, which on dry skin like mine was a must. My skin didn't dry out throughout the day whilst I was wearing it, and it felt very comfortable and light. I'm unable to comment on how good it is for oil control, as my skin doesn't tend to get very oily throughout the day anyway.

The most impressive part for me was how well it helped to clear up my spots. They were completely gone in a matter of days - and I had a few whoppers on my face, let me tell you! I was a little sceptical at first, as it felt like the product wasn't really doing anything. Usually when I apply spot fighting treatments to me face, I can feel some sort of tingling, so it feels like it's doing something. I didn't get this feeling with this product - as I said it felt really comfortable to wear - but the results I've seen must mean it was doing something!

Overall I'm really pleased with this product and will definitely be using it again if I have another breakout. I would recommend this if you have quite dry, sensitive skin but you're still prone to the odd breakout, as this will sort them out a treat without irritating your skin. Although, if you have quite fair skin, I'd probably give this one a miss, unless you can find something to mix it with to make it lighter, or you're going to look like you've been tangoed!

The Essence Anti Spot Moisturizing Makeup is now available from Wilkinsons for just £3.50 for a 30ml tube (and there's currently a 3 for 2 offer on, hehe!).

Have you tried this product yet? What's your favourite spot fighting treatment?

  3. This looks great! I have such dry skin so the fact it's moisturising is perfect for me. And although I don't have an acne problem, it'd be good to cover any up with makeup that not only doesn't make them worse but gets rid of them! Great review!

  6. Oooh I love the sound of this product! I'm pretty pale so it might not match up with my skin at the moment, but after my holiday it will be ideal for a new foundation. Definitely going to pick this up for that price! Great post :)
