It's not often I'm disappointed by a product, I usually do a lot of research before making a new purchase, particularly when they're quite pricey, so see if it's going to be worth my money or not. But there's always that odd occasion when a really hyped up product just doesn't seem to work for me, or doesn't meet my expectations. Sometimes I'll include a full review of them on my blog, but here are five that didn't quite make it into a post of their own.
The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil
I know Amelia Liana has raved about this stuff a lot, and that's what drew me in to making this purchase, but I didn't enjoy using it at all. I found it quite difficult to get my base makeup off, not matter how much a massaged it into my skin. I wasn't really a fan of how it left my skin feeling afterwards either. I do really love the Camomile Cleansing Balm though!
By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Frozen Quartz
I imagine this to be quite a controversial choice, and I'm sure that many of you are screaming "how could you not like this?!" but this was really disappointing considering it cost a whopping £29. Don't get me wrong, the colour is beautiful and it applies really nicely, but it creases so badly! After just a couple of hours the colour on my lids was really patchy looking. Everyone seems to swear by these, so maybe I just got a bad one but I won't be spending another £29 to find out!
Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Peach Lights
I really wanted to love this product, Makeup Revolution is a fantastic budget brand that has so many great products, but this one was a disappointment. It was just far too glittery for my liking and I didn't like the way it looked on my skin. It's a shame because the shade itself is really pretty, I just couldn't stand all the shimmer on my cheeks.
Benefit They're Real Mascara
Wow, did this product get some serious hype when it was first launched. From all the reviews I read, I was led to believe this was the greatest mascara in the universe and boy was I disappointed! When I first opened the product the formula was way too wet for my liking, quite often my eyes would end up in a mess once I blinked. I didn't give up hope completely though - I left the mascara for a few weeks for it to dry out a little and tried again, but unfortunately it didn't really do anything for me, and made my lashes look really spidery. The really annoying thing is that I've received a few samples of the mascara since purchasing the full size - I really wish I'd waited and tried out the freebie first!
Maybelline Baby Lips
These are essentially just your bog standard lip balms that you could pick up from the drugstore for 99p, marketed to appear to be something better. They didn't do anything that my Chapstick wouldn't do for less money and I found the packaging to be really cheap, poor quality.
Did you agree with any of my picks? What products have you been disappointed by?
Thanks for this post. I like to see balanced reviews. I do like they're real but its a nightmare to get off. Puts me off using it! X http://Brazenrouge.wordpress.com
ReplyDeleteYeah I've heard that a lot from people that use it but I really wasn't a fan. I'm looking forward to trying a sample of their new mascara though xx
DeleteI was initially really disappointed by the Benefit mascara. I waited weeks and tried again and then I loved, strangely.

That can happen a lot with mascaras, so I don't tend to give up on them straight away but I still didn't like this one even after leaving it for a while xx
DeleteI really disliked baby lips, they didn't moisturise my lips at all and definitely didn't live up to the hype x

Yep, I felt like I was having to apply more often than I normally would, really not a good product xx
DeleteI found the Baby Lips hydrate disappointing too, it doesn't taste nice at all! Great post xx.
